In the Catholic Church, a Jubilee or Holy Year is a special year of forgiveness and reconciliation, in which people are invited to come back into right relationship with God, with one another, and with all of creation.
The 2025 Jubilee Year begins on Christmas Eve 2024 and concludes on 6th January 2026. For schools, the Jubilee launch day is on Friday 24th January 2025.
The theme for the Jubilee is Pilgrims of Hope. Pope Francis has invited Catholics to renew our hope and discover a vision that can ‘restore access to the fruits of the earth to everyone’. We are also invited to rediscover a spirituality of God’s creation in which we understand ourselves as ‘pilgrims on the earth’ rather that masters of the world.
The theme of the Jubilee Year is hope. All pupils have been invited to respond creatively to the ‘Pilgrims of Hope’ motto in art. To do this we have dedicated a whole day to exploring the motto and creating pieces of art. These artistic efforts are to be displayed in school ready for the start of the Jubilee Year beginning in Advent and some pieces will be displayed within the Church and local community. Hopefully we will be selected to have pieces of work shared as part of a travelling gallery!
